0.52 mm 650 GSM 1000D 23×23 Camouflage Airtight PVC Inflatable Boat Fabric

Inflatable boats must combine low weight, portability, strength, airtight performance, and resistance to demanding outdoor conditions. The fabric selected for the boat’s tubes, chambers, floor sections, seats, and repair areas has a direct effect on safety, service life, handling, and maintenance. A material that is too heavy can make transportation difficult, while a material that is too light may not provide the required resistance to abrasion, pressure, tearing, or changing weather conditions.

The 0.52 mm 650 GSM 1000D 23×23 Camouflage Airtight PVC Inflatable Boat Fabric is designed as an economical yet functional solution for inflatable boat production and repair. It combines a polyester base fabric with a PVC coating system to create a flexible, waterproof, and mechanically reinforced material. The 1000 denier yarn construction and 23×23 thread density provide a balanced foundation for general inflatable boat applications, while the 650 GSM finished weight helps maintain a practical relationship between durability and portability.

In addition to its technical performance, the camouflage finish gives the material a distinctive appearance for recreational boating, fishing, hunting, rescue support, outdoor exploration, and other applications where a less conspicuous or more adventure-oriented visual effect is preferred. The airtight PVC structure helps maintain internal air pressure, and the fabric can also be used for selected replacement areas on boats made from heavier 850 GSM or 1100 GSM materials when cost control and weight reduction are important considerations.

Produced by Zhejiang MSD Group Share Co., Ltd., a manufacturer with experience in flexible materials, functional sports materials, and environmentally friendly decorative products, this fabric reflects an integrated approach to material development. The company’s product system includes PVC waterproof fabric, drop stitch fabric, PVC tarpaulin, PVC mesh fabric, advertising flex banner, PVC calendered film, PVC ceiling film, and other flexible materials. This broad product background supports the development of coated textiles for varied outdoor and industrial uses.

0.52 mm 650GSM 1000D23X23 Camouflage Airtight PVC Inflatable Boat Fabric

Product Overview and Core Construction

The product is a PVC-coated polyester fabric engineered for inflatable boat production. Its construction consists of a woven polyester base fabric combined with PVC coating layers. The polyester provides the reinforcing framework, while the PVC contributes waterproofing, flexibility, airtightness, chemical resistance, and surface protection.

The 1000D designation refers to the approximate denier level of the base-fabric yarn. Denier is a unit used to express the linear density of fibers or yarns. A higher denier generally indicates a thicker and more substantial yarn, although final performance also depends on weave structure, coating formulation, thread density, bonding quality, and finishing technology.

The 23×23 specification indicates the base-fabric density in threads per inch in the two principal directions. This balanced construction helps provide consistent mechanical behavior along both the machine direction and cross direction. For inflatable boat fabric, balanced properties are important because the material is exposed to tension, inflation pressure, folding, handling, seams, and localized loads from occupants and equipment.

The finished fabric has a nominal thickness of 0.52 mm and a nominal finished weight of 650 GSM. GSM means grams per square meter and is a useful indicator of the amount of material used in the finished product. At 650 GSM, the fabric offers a lighter alternative to heavier inflatable boat fabrics while retaining a reinforced textile structure suitable for many standard applications.

Key Specifications

The values in the table are average or nominal values supplied for the product specification. Actual production values may vary within the stated tolerance or according to the agreed quality standard, color, coating formulation, and order requirements. Buyers should confirm the final technical data, inspection method, and compliance documentation before placing a production order.

Why the Material Is Suitable for Inflatable Boats

An inflatable boat fabric must perform several functions at the same time. It must contain air, tolerate repeated flexing, resist tearing, maintain an effective bond at seams, and withstand contact with water, sunlight, mud, sand, fuel residues, and handling equipment. The 0.52 mm 650 GSM construction addresses these requirements through the combined behavior of its textile reinforcement and PVC coating.

Airtight and Waterproof Structure

The PVC coating forms a continuous barrier over the polyester base fabric. When the fabric is correctly processed, cut, welded, or bonded, this barrier helps prevent water penetration and supports the retention of air inside inflatable chambers. Airtight performance is particularly important for tubes and air compartments because even a small defect can affect pressure, buoyancy, handling, and user confidence.

Waterproofing also improves the practical service experience. A waterproof surface reduces the absorption of water into the textile structure, helps protect the reinforcement yarns, and makes the boat easier to dry after use. The surface can be cleaned after exposure to mud, sand, salt water, and outdoor debris, provided that appropriate cleaning methods are followed.

Balanced Strength and Flexibility

The reported tensile strength is 3000 N/5 cm in the machine direction and 2800 N/5 cm in the cross direction. These values indicate a strong reinforced fabric capable of handling substantial tensile loads. The relatively close results in the two directions also suggest a balanced construction, which is useful when panels are cut in different orientations during boat manufacturing.

Strength alone is not enough for inflatable boat fabric. The material must also remain flexible enough to fold, roll, assemble, and transport. A 0.52 mm thickness allows the fabric to maintain a practical degree of flexibility compared with heavier constructions. This can help manufacturers reduce the effort required during cutting, panel positioning, welding, and packing.

Tear Resistance

Tear strength is important when the fabric is exposed to sharp edges, accidental punctures, fasteners, rough ground, or concentrated loads. The stated tearing strength is 260 N/5 cm in the machine direction and 240 N/5 cm in the cross direction. The polyester reinforcement helps prevent a small cut from propagating rapidly through the panel.

Although the fabric has good designed resistance to tearing, no inflatable boat material is immune to damage. Users should avoid dragging inflated boats across abrasive surfaces, placing them on sharp rocks, or exposing them to unprotected metal edges. Correct storage, inspection, and timely repair remain necessary for safe and economical operation.

Peeling Strength at Coating Interfaces

The stated peeling strength of 120 N/5 cm represents the adhesion performance between the coating layers and the supporting structure under the specified test method. Good coating adhesion is essential because delamination can reduce waterproofing, affect appearance, and weaken the material around seams or areas that are repeatedly folded.

Reliable coating adhesion depends on several factors, including surface preparation, PVC formulation, coating temperature, pressure, line speed, curing or fusion conditions, and storage history. Consistent control of these factors is an important part of producing fabric suitable for boat manufacturing.

Advantages Compared with Common Alternative Materials

Inflatable boat producers can choose from several material categories, including uncoated textiles, rubber-coated fabrics, heavier PVC fabrics, polyurethane-coated fabrics, and different grades of PVC-coated polyester. The most suitable option depends on boat design, pressure requirements, working environment, target price, repair method, and expected service life.

Advantage Over Uncoated Polyester Fabric

Uncoated polyester fabric can provide textile strength but does not offer the continuous waterproof and airtight barrier required for inflatable chambers. The PVC coating in this product gives the polyester reinforcement a functional outer layer that supports air retention and water resistance.

Compared with using an uncoated textile with a separate liner, an integrated coated fabric can simplify construction and reduce the number of material layers that need to be handled. It can also provide a more consistent surface for cleaning, printing, welding, or bonding, depending on the boat manufacturer’s process.

Advantage Over Very Heavy PVC Fabric

Heavier 850 GSM and 1100 GSM fabrics may be selected for high-duty boats, commercial applications, or areas exposed to unusually severe abrasion. However, heavier fabric also increases the finished weight of the boat. This can affect transportation, storage, launching, carrying distance, and fuel consumption when the boat is used with a motor.

The 650 GSM construction offers a more economical and lighter alternative for suitable designs. It is especially useful when the boat specification does not require the maximum thickness and weight available from a heavier material. It may also be used for selected replacement panels on heavier boats, allowing repair specialists to control material costs and avoid adding unnecessary weight.

Advantage Over Less Reinforced Coated Film

Coated films without a woven polyester base may be flexible and inexpensive, but they generally do not provide the same level of tensile and tear reinforcement as a coated textile. The 1000D 23×23 base fabric gives the product a structural skeleton that supports dimensional stability and mechanical durability.

Advantage of PVC for Practical Outdoor Use

PVC is widely used in outdoor flexible materials because it can be formulated for waterproofing, flexibility, chemical resistance, flame-retardant performance, UV resistance, mildew resistance, and other requirements. The supplied material information indicates that PVC can be modified with additives for anti-UV, anti-mildew, anti-static, anti-bacterial, anti-frost, and enhanced flame-retardant properties.

These properties are not necessarily included in every standard production version. They should be selected and confirmed according to the intended application. This flexibility gives manufacturers more options than a single fixed material specification.

Performance in Different Operating Conditions

Temperature Resistance

The stated operating temperature range is -50°C to +70°C. This broad range is useful for inflatable boats that may be transported, stored, or used in different climates. A material that remains functional across a wide temperature range is less likely to become excessively brittle in cold conditions or excessively soft under normal high-temperature exposure.

Temperature performance can also affect folding and storage. In cold conditions, the fabric should be handled in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations, because repeated sharp folding of any coated material at very low temperatures can increase stress at creases. In hot conditions, the boat should not be overinflated, especially when it is left in direct sunlight, because the air inside the chamber expands as temperature increases.

Sunlight and UV Exposure

Outdoor equipment is frequently exposed to ultraviolet radiation, which can cause fading, surface degradation, and loss of flexibility over time. The product information identifies UV resistance as an available benefit of PVC formulation and describes the camouflage fabric as designed for outdoor use. UV performance depends on the selected formulation, pigment system, coating thickness, exposure intensity, and maintenance practices.

To extend service life, users should avoid leaving the boat inflated and uncovered in direct sunlight for long periods. When the boat is not in use, it should be rinsed if necessary, dried fully, folded without excessive creasing, and stored in a cool, dry, ventilated location.

Water, Salt, and Chemical Contact

PVC has good resistance to many common chemicals, and the supplied product information notes resistance to concentrated hydrochloric acid, 90% sulfuric acid, 60% nitric acid, and 20% sodium hydroxide under the stated material description. These examples describe the general chemical resistance associated with the PVC material and should not be interpreted as permission to expose the finished boat to concentrated chemicals.

For normal boating use, the fabric should be protected from prolonged contact with fuel, solvents, aggressive cleaners, and industrial chemicals. When contamination occurs, the affected area should be cleaned promptly with a suitable mild cleaning solution and tested first on an inconspicuous section.

Mildew and Moisture Management

Boats are often stored in damp environments, and residual moisture can promote mildew on dirt, biological deposits, or vulnerable components. An anti-mildew treatment is available as an optional feature for this fabric. Regardless of treatment, the most effective basic practice is to dry the boat thoroughly before folding and storage.

Manufacturers supplying boats for humid climates, tropical regions, long-term storage, or rental fleets may wish to specify optional anti-mildew performance. The requirement should be included in the purchase specification and supported by the appropriate test documentation.

Camouflage Appearance and Application Value

The camouflage finish provides more than a decorative change from solid-color fabric. It gives inflatable boats a specialized outdoor appearance that may appeal to anglers, hunters, expedition users, military-style equipment markets, nature photographers, and recreational customers who prefer an adventure-oriented design.

A camouflage pattern can also make ordinary dirt, light scuffing, and minor surface marks less visually obvious than they might be on a plain light-colored surface. This does not eliminate the need for cleaning or inspection, but it can help the product retain a practical appearance during outdoor use.

Color fastness is specified at a minimum rating of 6. This indicates strong resistance to color change under the relevant evaluation system. The final result may depend on exposure conditions, cleaning chemicals, abrasion, and the selected pigment or printing process. Buyers requiring a particular camouflage pattern should confirm the artwork, repeat size, color range, and approval sample before mass production.

Manufacturing Process and Quality Control

The performance of PVC inflatable boat fabric depends not only on the raw materials but also on the consistency of manufacturing. A high-quality product requires control from yarn selection through base-fabric formation, coating, lamination or fusion, surface finishing, inspection, and packing.

Base-Fabric Preparation

The process begins with polyester yarn selected for the required denier and mechanical performance. For this product, the specified base yarn is 1000D in both principal directions. The yarn is prepared and woven or otherwise formed into a base fabric with a target density of 23×23 threads per inch.

Density control matters because variations in thread spacing can affect fabric weight, dimensional stability, coating coverage, and tensile behavior. A controlled preparation process helps maintain a uniform surface for the PVC coating and supports consistent results across the fabric width and length.

PVC Formulation and Additive Selection

The PVC coating system can be adjusted to meet different requirements for flexibility, weathering, flame retardancy, color, adhesion, and chemical resistance. Additives may be selected for UV resistance, anti-mildew performance, anti-static properties, antibacterial performance, frost resistance, or enhanced flame-retardant behavior.

The formulation must be compatible with the polyester reinforcement and the intended finishing method. Excessive hardness may reduce foldability, while insufficient strength or plasticizer control may affect durability. For inflatable boat applications, the formulation should provide a careful balance between flexibility, airtightness, surface durability, weldability, and long-term aging performance.

Coating and Fusion Control

During coating, the PVC compound is applied to the base fabric under controlled conditions. Important process variables may include coating thickness, coating speed, temperature, pressure, surface tension, and the relationship between the PVC layers and the reinforcement. Consistent control helps achieve the specified 0.52 mm thickness and 650 GSM finished weight.

Fusion or bonding conditions are equally important. The coating must be securely integrated with the textile support so that it does not easily separate during folding, inflation, welding, or service. The stated peeling strength provides a measurable reference for this interface performance.

Surface Finishing

The surface may be finished to provide the desired camouflage appearance, texture, gloss level, cleanability, and handling characteristics. A properly finished surface supports visual consistency and can help the boat fabric meet the appearance expectations of recreational and professional buyers.

Where camouflage printing or patterned finishing is used, registration, color matching, pattern repeat, and color fastness require attention. A controlled finishing process reduces variation between production lots and helps ensure that replacement panels have a compatible appearance when ordered later.

Inspection and Testing

Testing should cover both physical performance and appearance. The supplied technical data identifies methods for base density, finished weight, thickness, tensile strength, tearing strength, and peeling strength. These tests provide a structured way to compare production results with the agreed specification.

Quality control may also include visual inspection for coating skips, pinholes, wrinkles, foreign particles, color variation, surface contamination, edge damage, and pattern defects. For inflatable boat fabric, air-retention tests, seam compatibility trials, welding trials, and accelerated aging evaluations can provide additional information before the material is released for production.

Zhejiang MSD Group Share Co., Ltd. has developed a product system spanning several flexible-material categories. This cross-category experience can support process learning, material development, and application-specific customization. The company states that it emphasizes independent innovation, research and development, and product innovation as important parts of its competitiveness.

Manufacturing Strengths of the Supplier

Zhejiang MSD Group Share Co., Ltd. was established in 2002 and is headquartered in the Warp Knitting Industrial Park in Haining City, Zhejiang Province, China. Its product portfolio includes advertising flex banner, PVC calendered film, PVC ceiling film, drop stitch fabric, sunshade fabric, PVC waterproof fabric, PVC mesh fabric, PVC tarpaulin, and related flexible materials.

This broad portfolio is relevant to buyers seeking more than a single fabric roll. Manufacturers may require several related materials for a complete product line, including boat fabric, repair material, protective covers, tarpaulins, advertising materials, or other coated textiles. A supplier with multiple material categories may be able to provide more coordinated technical communication and sourcing support.

The company’s stated focus on independent innovation and continuous research and development indicates an emphasis on improving product performance rather than relying only on standard commodity grades. For customers with special requirements, this can be valuable when discussing changes to weight, thickness, color, surface treatment, flame retardancy, anti-mildew properties, or regulatory options.

Customization should be managed through a clear technical process. The buyer should provide the application, target boat pressure, welding or bonding method, required color, environmental conditions, finished dimensions, inspection requirements, and applicable market regulations. The supplier can then evaluate the appropriate coating formulation and production specification.

Applications Beyond New Boat Production

Inflatable Dinghies and Recreational Boats

The fabric is suitable for many recreational inflatable boat designs where a balance of strength, weight, cost, and appearance is required. It can be used for tubes, side chambers, outer panels, and other components subject to the design engineer’s evaluation.

Fishing and Angling Boats

Fishing boats encounter hooks, tackle boxes, rods, anchors, sand, water, and repeated loading. The reinforced PVC construction provides a practical material platform for fishing boat products, particularly when manufacturers need a lighter material that remains strong enough for normal use.

Replacement and Repair Panels

The fabric can be considered for replacing selected sections of an existing inflatable boat. It may be particularly useful where a manufacturer or repair specialist wants to reduce replacement cost or avoid adding the weight associated with an 850 GSM or 1100 GSM material.

Compatibility must be checked before repair. Differences in thickness, plasticizer system, surface finish, welding temperature, and material hardness can affect seam quality. The repair operator should test a sample and confirm that the replacement fabric is suitable for the original boat’s construction.

Rescue and Utility Equipment

Inflatable equipment used for rescue support, emergency transport, water inspection, and utility work may benefit from waterproof, flexible, and reinforced fabric. However, rescue equipment can be subject to specialized standards and high safety requirements. The fabric should be selected only after confirming the complete equipment design, load rating, seam performance, and applicable certification requirements.

Protective Covers and Outdoor Structures

The material’s waterproof surface and durable polyester reinforcement may also support selected outdoor cover applications. Potential uses include equipment covers, inflatable structures, temporary partitions, protective panels, and other flexible products. The final application should determine whether the standard fabric or an option with additional UV, mildew, flame-retardant, or chemical-resistance properties is appropriate.

Processing, Welding, and Design Considerations

Successful inflatable boat production requires compatibility between the fabric and the manufacturing process. The fabric should be tested with the selected high-frequency welding, hot-air welding, hot-wedge welding, adhesive bonding, or other joining method before production begins.

Welding parameters can vary according to fabric thickness, coating formulation, machine type, electrode design, pressure, speed, and ambient conditions. A qualified production team should establish the correct temperature, pressure, dwell time, and energy settings. Overheating may damage the coating or create an uneven seam, while insufficient energy may result in weak bonding or air leakage.

Panel design should consider the direction of the base fabric, stress concentration, seam placement, valve installation, handles, towing points, seat supports, and areas exposed to abrasion. Rounded corners and suitable reinforcement patches can help reduce stress concentration. Sharp internal corners may create localized loads during inflation and use.

Material rolls should be stored on suitable supports and protected from direct sunlight, moisture, excessive heat, and contamination. Before cutting, the fabric should be allowed to stabilize in the production environment when necessary. This can help reduce dimensional variation caused by temperature or humidity changes.

Manufacturers should also control cutting accuracy and maintain traceability between material batches. Recording the roll number, production date, color, inspection result, and application can simplify quality investigations and future replacement orders.

Installation and Maintenance Recommendations

Before inflation, users should inspect the boat for cuts, punctures, loose valves, damaged seams, excessive abrasion, or signs of coating separation. Early detection helps prevent a small defect from becoming a major repair.

The boat should be inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure. Overinflation can place unnecessary stress on seams, valves, and panels, particularly when the boat becomes warmer in direct sunlight. Underinflation may reduce stability, increase deformation, and cause components to rub against the water or ground.

After use, the fabric should be rinsed with clean water when exposed to salt water, mud, or sand. A mild cleaner and soft cloth may be used for routine cleaning. Abrasive brushes, harsh solvents, and aggressive chemical cleaners should be avoided unless their compatibility has been confirmed.

The boat should be fully dried before folding. Folding while wet can trap moisture and increase the risk of mildew or odor. It is preferable to fold the material along broad, natural sections rather than creating sharp repeated creases in the same location.

Repairs should use compatible PVC repair material and an appropriate professional method. Temporary adhesive patches may be useful for emergency situations, but permanent repairs should be made by trained personnel. Any repair close to a high-load seam, valve, towing point, or chamber boundary deserves particular attention.

Environmental and Compliance Options

The product information indicates that RoHS, REACH, and EN71-3 requirements can be addressed for PVC material when specified. REACH relates to chemical substance requirements in the European market, RoHS concerns restrictions on certain hazardous substances in applicable electrical and electronic products, and EN71-3 addresses the migration of certain elements in relevant toy materials.

Not every inflatable boat application requires all three standards, and the relevance depends on the finished product, destination market, and regulatory classification. Buyers should identify the exact requirement during the quotation stage and request current supporting documents for the specific material formulation and color.

A 16P-free option is also listed as available. This designation generally relates to restrictions on specified phthalates in relevant products and markets. Because regulations and customer requirements can change, the buyer should define the required list of restricted substances and the acceptable test standard in the purchasing agreement.

Optional anti-mildew treatment, UV stabilization, flame-retardant performance, and other enhancements should likewise be confirmed in writing. The most reliable procurement process links each requested feature to a measurable test, specification, or certificate.

How to Select the Correct Grade

The 650 GSM fabric is an economical option, but the correct grade should be selected according to the boat’s design and operating environment. Important questions include the intended inflation pressure, boat length, passenger capacity, frequency of use, expected abrasion, storage conditions, repair policy, and regulatory market.

For lightweight recreational boats and cost-sensitive designs, 650 GSM can provide an attractive balance. For commercial workboats, heavily loaded rescue boats, rental fleets, or equipment exposed to continuous abrasion, a heavier 850 GSM or 1100 GSM fabric may be more appropriate in selected areas.

A mixed-material design can also be considered. The 650 GSM fabric may be used for general panels, while higher-weight materials are applied to the floor, keel, rubbing strips, towing points, or other high-wear zones. This approach can optimize total boat weight and cost, but compatibility testing is essential.

Buyers should request a physical sample before mass production. The sample should be evaluated for color, thickness, weight, flexibility, surface appearance, welding behavior, adhesion, air retention, and compatibility with the intended design. A sample approval process helps prevent misunderstandings about appearance and performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does 650 GSM mean?

650 GSM means that the finished fabric has a nominal mass of 650 grams per square meter. The stated tolerance for this product is approximately plus or minus 3 percent. GSM is one indicator of material construction, but it should be considered together with thickness, yarn denier, thread density, tensile strength, tear strength, coating adhesion, and application requirements.
